– Census takers work in the field. Some field positions require employees to work during the day to see addresses on buildings. Other field positions require interviewing the public, so employees should be available to work when people are usually at home, such as in the evening and on weekends. This is the most common job position and from there employees might move into other higher up positions.
– Clerks perform various administrative and clerical tasks to support various functional areas, including payroll, personnel, recruiting, field operations and support.
– Office operations supervisors assist in the management of office functions and day-to-day activities in one or more functional areas, including payroll, personnel, recruiting, field operations and support.
– Census field supervisors conduct fieldwork to support and conduct on-the-job training for census takers and/or to follow-up in situations where census takers have confronted issues, such as not gaining entry to restricted areas.
To summarize, within your area, census taker jobs pay at a rate of $16.00 per hour and reimburse additionally for mileage use of the car at the Federal rate of 58 cents a mile. Supervisory positions would pay more and clerical and office jobs, slightly less. Jobs will be identified as either in the field or in an office setting. We are also seeking those people with IT experience as this census uses more technology than in prior censuses – iPads, telephones, computers and the web – so much more than ever before.
